Lauren, Leonella, and Erena with Gov. Noem
The first week of February, three SD HOSA officers were given the opportunity to see our state government in action. President Lauren Okine, Treasurer Leo Perez, and Parliamentarian Erena Jain traveled to Pierre, SD with our state advisor Brock Rops. Over the course of a day, the state officers participated in Legislative Shadow Days at the South Dakota Capitol building. Each paired with a senator or representative from their county, the officers followed along with a state legislator for the day. They also toured the Capitol building. While shadowing committee meetings, they heard about bills ranging from child custody to mask mandates. HOSA and other CTSOs were announced in both the House and Senate Chambers. The trip wouldn't be complete without a visit from South Dakota governor Kristi Noem. She spoke to the CTSO students about leadership and education. All in all, Legislative Shadow Days was a great opportunity for the leaders of tomorrow to learn from the leaders of today.
