Former Mitchel

When were you in HOSA?
I was in HOSA from the Fall of 2018 to the Spring of 2022.

What chapter?
I was in the Mitchell HOSA Chapter.

Where do you go to college?
I currently attend the University of South Dakota.

What is your major?
My major is Health Services Administration with a minor in Legal Studies in Business.

What advice would you give HS students in HOSA today?
My advice for the high school students in HOSA today is to not be afraid of changing their plans and to be open to the various opportunities in the healthcare field. Initially, I wanted to go into radiology but decided to change my plans and pursue Health Services Administration with a minor in Legal Studies in Business. This plus a law degree will allow me to work in a hospital in their legal department. There are so many options that you can pursue in the healthcare field that do not have to be on the clinical side. Hospitals and clinics need administrators, accountants, marketing, IT, and so much more.

How did HOSA help you get to where you are today?
HOSA helped me get to where I am today by exposing me to the various opportunities within the healthcare field and allowing me to see real-world examples of healthcare professionals in action. HOSA also offered competitions that allowed me to research health-related issues and present my findings. These competitions motivated me to improve my presentation skills and become a stronger presenter. In addition to this, I also remember volunteering for my town's flu shot clinic through HOSA. This allowed me to see the impact and the importance of building strong relationships between providers and my community.

Future plans?
I plan on attending law school in the Fall of 2026. After that, I plan on specializing in contracts and negotiations for a hospital.
