When were you in HOSA?
I was involved in HOSA in 2015 which was the first year of our HOSA Chapter in Iroquois.

What chapter?
I was involved in the Iroquois HOSA Chapter.

What state officer position were you?
I did not hold a state officer position.

Where do you go to college?
I have attended college at both South Dakota State University and Augustana University.

What is your major?
I graduated magna cum laude with a degree in Human Biology from South Dakota State University in the May of 2018. Following this, I was accepted into the accelerated nursing program at Augustana University and completed by Bachelor of Science in nursing on December 13th, 2019.

What advice would you give HS students in HOSA today?
The advice I would give to high school students in HOSA today is to take opportunities given to you. If you do not believe something is of interest to you, do not limit yourself and expose yourself to as many healthcare careers as possible. Furthermore, as many students are taking the ACT prior to attending college, remember, a test does not define you. It cannot measure how kind you are, your character, or your compassion for what you may be studying. You will take many tests over your high school and college career and one low test score does not determine your future success.

How did HOSA help you get to where you are today?
HOSA helped me get where I am today by exposing me to numerous healthcare careers. I was fortunate to have my mom as my HOSA leader as she always encouraged me to volunteer and job shadow as much as I could. HOSA taught me to complete everything you do whole-heartedly and with a positive attitude.

Future plans?
My future plans are to work for Sanford as a travel nurse. In the years following this, I will go back to school to become a nurse practitioner and work in an underserved area in South Dakota.
