Rapid City HOSA Students Got You Covered

Members of the Rapid City Stevens and Rapid City Central HOSA Chapters collaborated with the Rapid City Independent Agents Association to make blankets and raise awarenss of Shaken Baby Syndrome. The blankets were given to newborns at Rapid City Regional Hospital.

After numerous studies were conducted, The Period of PURPLE Crying Program, was designed and approved by pediatricians, public health nurses, child development experts, and parents as an educational resource. PURPLE is an acronym for the following:

P- Peak of Crying (Your baby may cry more each week, the most in month two)

U- Unexpected (Crying can come and go and you don't know why)

R- Resists Soothing (Your baby may not stop crying no matter what you try)

P- Pain-like Face (A crying baby may look like they are in pain, even when they are not)

L- Long Lasting (Crying can las as much as FIVE hours a day, or more)

E- Evening (Your baby may cry more in the late afternoon and evening)
