Appreciation and recognition play a major role in energizing and engaging students. The strength of these events offers encouragement and gratitude for SD HOSA members who go above and beyond their “call” as a part of the SD HOSA team.

Barbara James Service 

  •  This award seeks to recognize individual HOSA members whose commitment to community service is worthy of recognition.
  •  Service hours are tracked
  •  Bronze, Silver, and Gold recognition depending on hours

Healthcare Issues Exam 

  •  Testing event
  •  50 item multiple choice test and one essay question
  •  Content assessed regardingcurrent health issues this past year
  •  1 hour to complete the test

HOSA Happenings 

  • Project-based event
  • Media material created to inform school/community of local HOSA chapter

National Service Project 

  •  Local chapters plan service projects to support the selected organization
  •  Chapters document their involvement and submit documentation to their state advisor
  •  National Partner for 2016-2018 is National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI)

Outstanding HOSA Chapter

  • Project-based event
  • Scrapbook created documenting local chapter activities

Outstanding State Leader  

  •  Nominated by local chapters
  •  Each state will selects OSL for NLC recognition
