What advice would you give HS students in HOSA today?
Take advantage of as many opportunities as you can! Don't be afraid to put yourself out there.
How did HOSA help you get to where you are today?
HOSA has provided me with valuable tools including public speaking, advocacy, leadership, independence, and motivation. As an amputee of 18+ years, I feel that I have a more personal understanding that goes far beyond the clinical understanding. This, combined with my education and the skills acquired from HOSA, has gotten me to where I am today.
What are you doing now?
I completed my undergraduate degree from Dakota Wesleyan University in 2019, then went onto Century College to complete the technical fabrication part of grad school. I graduated with my Masters of Science in Orthotics and Prosthetics from St Paul Concordia University in 2023. I'm currently finishing up my 18 month residency with OrthoPro of Twin Falls in Idaho! I will become a Certified Orthotics and Prosthetics Practitioner in the spring of 2025.
Since completing school, advocacy has been the next step. In April, I was featured in a piece by the Minnehaha Messenger for Limb Loss Awareness Month. I have also worked in partnership with organizations like the Range of Motion Project (ROMP) and "So Everybody Can Move" to advocate for those living with limb loss and limb difference.
