At our State Leadership Conference you will get an opportunity to network with peers across the state that share the same interests and goals you do. You will have an opportuinity to compete in over 45 events, attend a plethora of academic sessions geared for your age group, and take multiple tours to health facitilies in the area.

In 2007, the Departments of Health and Education began a partnership to implement one day, hands-on health career awareness opportunities for students. You’ve come to know these camps as “Scrubs Camps” for high school students. The number of camps across South Dakota has grown from five camps in 2007/2008 to 16 camps in 2013/2014. National HOSA hosts the National Leadership Conference every summer, rotating between Nashville, TN, Orlando, FL, and Anaheim, CA! If you ever wanted to visit Disney, here is your opportunity! The HOSA National Leadership Conference is the summit for anyone involved in HOSA. Here, students from across the country gather to network with each other, becoming life-long friends, sharing healthcare as their common bond.
Some of the country’s prestigious healthcare industries and educators emigrate to this conference to share innovations and ideas with HOSA members. These national partners offer education symposiums and exhibits for HOSA members to experience healthcare from a perspective others only dream about.

South Dakota HOSA LAUNCH plans to engage local chapter officers and others through a dynamic day of leadership activities, accessibility to professionals, collaboration with others, and informative discussions relating to successful HOSA chapters. We aim to get your career "LAUNCHED" through this one day training.
This year, SD HOSA is offering three, one-day academies on the following campuses:
October 21, 2017- The University of South Dakota
L- Leadership Development
In this session, students engage in activities involving leadership styles, personality types, and public speaking, among others.
A- Activity Driven
In this session, students and advisors will discuss meeting ideas and projects HOSA chapters may be interested in diving in to.
U- Unwavering Confidence
In this session, students will have the opportunity to speak with health professionals, college studentss and professors.
N- Networking Synapse
In this session, students will tour campus and establish familiarity with certain academic health science pathways.
C- Collaboration Station
In this session, students will particiapte in collective problem-solving, team building exercises, and a lil' Robert's Rule of Order.
H- Helpful Hints
In this session, students will gain insight into competitive event preparation, what is new for events in 2018, and how to go for gold in April!

South Dakota HOSA plays a key role in helping students reach their POTENTIAL by ENGAGING YOUR MINDS through activities, events, and relevant learning experiences. Every student has POTENTIAL, but the path to reaching that POTENTIAL can be filled with obstacles.
Attending SD HOSA’s State Leadership Conference will provide students the learning opportunities, competitions, academic symposiums, and educational tours needed to progress toward a future health career. Get involved and stretch yourself by trying something new!

Avera Health will host an "All Access Avera" event on Friday, Oct. 30 from 8am-1pm. Avera Health, a valuable partner of SD HOSA, will open its doors allowing HOSA chapters to tour many areas of the Avera Health campus in Sioux Falls.
Avera health professionals will tour you through departments including, but not limited to Emergency, Laboratory, Women's Center, Radiology, and Prairie Center.
During lunch, students will participate in a collaborative team building exercise prompting discussions of time management, characteristics of a health professional, the health care team, perspective, health care costs and health disparities.

Simply put; effective leaders strive! Becoming a chapter officer is the beginning of leadership with South Dakota HOSA. Whether you are a returning officer, serving for the first time, or just interested in the experience, South Dakota’s Fall Leadership Academy is designed specifically for you as you strive to improve yourself. Led by your South Dakota State Officer Team, the Fall Leadership Academy will engage you on topics needed to run a successful chapter. The focus for the Academy will revolve around the national theme: HOSA: Leadership, Service, Engagement. We will discuss what it means to lead collaboratively. This academy will help take your local chapters to even greater heights!
The 2014-15 Academy will include:
• Cultural immersion at Crazy Horse Memorial
• Leadership through teamork/collaboration focused activities
• Local chapter meeting ideas
• Competitive events best practices
• Engaged networking

Sanford Health, a valuable partner of SD HOSA, invites your chapter to experience the "sights and sounds" of Sanford Health. Dates for the event are as follows:

Experience torus of Radiology, ER, and Laboratory. Also, HOSA attendees will participate in an interactive hands-on understanding in USD's Parry Simulation Center.
Students will also participate in a team-building exercise fostering collaboration prompting discussions regarding time management, characteristics of the health professional, the health care team, perspective, health care costs, and health disparities.
